<div itemprop="description">CHRISTOPHER, Benedicta (Benny) <br />1943 - 2016 <br /> <br />Mrs. Benedicta &ldquo;Benny&rdquo; Christopher passed away peacefully at AgeCare Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore nursing home, Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the age of 72. <br /> <br />Benny was born November 10, 1943, in Mumbai, India. She was raised in a convent, while her mother worked oversees to support the family. In 1962, she moved to Kuwait to marry her late husband Manuel Christopher and lived there for 15 years raising four children. She moved with the family in 1977 to Bangalore, India, before finally immigrating to Canada in 2002, after her husband passed away. She began a new chapter in her life, working as a Daycare Provider, before taking an early retirement due to illness. <br /> <br />A consummate mother and homemaker, Benny was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Special occasions like Christmas was a food festival at the Christopher&rsquo;s home, all thanks to Benny. She was passionate about music, learning to play piano at a very young age and continued to play well into her sixties. She also thoroughly enjoyed singing and dancing and was a member of the choir at Sacred Heart church in Calgary. Her eclectic taste in music covered everything from gospel to rock. Her relentless pursuit for learning new skills had her working in a variety of jobs including as a substitute teacher, office administrator, travel agent, daycare worker and baker. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching soccer, tennis, baseball and cricket. <br /> <br />Benny had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St. Michael&rsquo;s Church and volunteered as a librarian and at numerous events. She was also a member of the Kerby Centre and occasionally volunteered her time at the Centre. <br /> <br />Benny is survived by her son Richard and his wife Teresa, of Calgary, Alberta; her daughter, Esther and her husband David Barnes of Peterborough, UK; her sons Norman of Nicosia, Cyprus, and Dominic and his wife Sarita of the UAE; and three grandchildren, Mary, Irini and Zoe. <br /> <br />Please join us for the funeral service and a celebration of Benny&rsquo;s life, on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Leyden&rsquo;s Chapel of Remembrance (corner of 17th Avenue and 2nd Street SW) at 2:00 pm. <br /> <br />If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca). <br /> <br /></div>
