Catharina Karsten
April 24, 1929 - November 25, 2016
Beloved mother and sister, Tina Karsten passed away in the afternoon of November 25, 2016 in Calgary Alberta at the age of 87. She will be sadly missed by her seven children, Jake, Tina, Corrie, Betty, John, Grace and Connie as well as her fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Tina was born in Holland on April 24, 1929. There she met her lifelong husband Jacob in her hometown of Avenhorn. They were married and then immigrated to Canada in 1954. They built their lives and raised seven children. Tina was a very busy and happy mother who was always there for her children’s needs. After the kids were in school, she worked at the Calgary Public Library and also as a home maker and nanny. Eventually Jacob and Tina retired and moved to Sheridan Lake, BC. They lived there for ten years and finally came back to Calgary for their final years of life.
Tina’s love of gardening, music, reading and listening was appreciated by her family and friends. Her devotion to her faith in God and family were very important to her and her gentle and quiet spirit will be truly missed by all who knew her.
God looked around his garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, ‘Peace be Thine’.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
