FARNUM, Douglas William
September 15, 1926 - October 7, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doug on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Southwood Hospice, Calgary.

A wonderful husband to Doreen, his beloved wife of 66 years, Doug is lovingly remembered by his children, Junadel (Tony), Cheryl (Russell), Rod and Scott (Sharlene) and grandchildren Marco, Marisa, Marcello, Chad, Jillian, Heidi, Thomas and Samantha.

Doug was a very proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp, 1942-1965, serving in various theaters in Europe and Asia. Upon discharge, Doug moved his family to Calgary and bought their first and present home in Lakeview. Doug worked for the City of Calgary and later in sales for Alberta Beautician and Barber Supply. A giving man, Doug was the first President of Lakeview Community Association and spearheaded the drive to build the first Community Association building which is still in use today. He, as well as others, guaranteed the bank loan with their own homes to ensure the building was built.

Doug's joy was travelling the world to visit friends and family and spending the days of his life with Doreen. Through his life he dealt with many medical issues, especially in his later years. Now Doug is at rest and suffers no more.

The family sincerely thanks Dr. Peter Thornton and Dr. Garth Mortis, as well as all doctors and medical staff who gave Doug comfort over the years. This Thank You is extended to the staff of South Campus Health Center, Southwood Hospice and CBI Home Healthcare.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at LEYDEN’S CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE (corner of 17th Avenue and 2nd Street SW at 10:30 a.m, Funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com
