LEKATSAS, Eugenia (nee Hahui)
September 23, 1919 - October 11, 2016

With great sadness, the family of Eugenia Lekatsas announce her passing in Calgary on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

Eugenia is survived by her daughters Toni and Mariana (Gordon), her grandchildren Spiro, Theo (Jill) and Gregory, her great-grandchildren Gus, Karley, Luke, Cruz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Calgary, Romania, Michigan and California. She was predeceased by her husband Spyridon, her daughter Alexandra and a child who died at birth; as well as her parents Paraskiv and Angelina, her brothers Anghel and Vasile, and her sister Stefania.

Eugenia and Spyridon were married in Romania. Spyridon was of Greek descent and after WWII was forced to flee Romania for Greece. They lived in Syros where Toni was born, then Tripoli, Patras and Pereas. In 1955, Eugenia and Spyridon moved to Holland where they lived in Limburg, then Leiden (where Mariana was born) and Rotterdam. In 1965 the family immigrated to Canada for better opportunities and have resided in Calgary since.

Following Dad’s passing, mom’s focus was on helping raise her grandchildren, the loves of her life. Her home was like Grand Central Station, everyone and anyone was always welcome. Mom loved to cook and bake. There was always something cooking on the stove. She would always say that “you just never know who might drop by”. Mom was a devout church-goer, truthful to her faith. She loved to shop and was always fashionably dressed. Mom enjoyed travelling and would jokingly say that she had been everywhere and has lived a very good life.

The family would like to thank all the visitors who came to see mom this past year. We would also like to thank Dr. Hantho and the staff at AgeCare Seton who gave her exceptional care, especially over the last few months.

Family and friends are invited to Prayer Service on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent SW) at 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the same location at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Eugenia’s name may be made to the Philoptochos Society of Calgary.
