FORSYTH - The Hon. Gregory R. Forsyth, QC
June 15, 1928 - June 16, 2015
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our much-loved husband, father, and grandfather, the day following his 87th birthday. He will be deeply missed by Nan, his loving wife of 57 years; his daughter Jane (Greg); daughter-in-law Janet; his grandchildren, Michelle (Brandon), Stephen, Andrew, and Natalie; sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Greg was predeceased by his much-loved son, Douglas in June of 2014; and his siblings, Phyllis, Tom, and David.
A very proud Calgarian, Greg graduated from The University of Alberta with his Law degree. During his summers at University, he trained with the Canadian Air Force and became a Pilot. After attaining his degree, Greg continued his involvement in the Air Force as a Reserve Pilot with the 403 Squadron in Calgary and the 400 Squadron in Toronto. Up until his death, Greg was an active member of the Air Crew Association in Calgary, where he enjoyed the friendship of his fellow members.
Greg started his law career with the CPR Law Department first in Calgary, transferring later to Toronto and Montreal. He returned to Calgary in 1959, joining the law firm of Howard Mackie, and later became a partner. Greg was appointed a Justice in the Court of Queen's Bench in 1979, and was a Justice for 23 ½ years until his retirement. He later joined the law firm of Borden Ladner Gervais for a few years. Greg thoroughly enjoyed his time practicing law and being a member of The Court of Queen’s Bench.
Greg was a long-time volunteer of the Calgary Stampede. He was a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed golfing with his many friends. Greg was also a member of the Glencoe Club. He loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders. Greg enjoyed many years at his cabin at Bar-Kay-Cee in Bragg Creek, spending time with family and friends. He will be missed for his quick wit and sense of humour.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Calgary Poppy Fund / Veteran’s Food Bank, 1, 4539 - 6 St NE, Calgary, AB T2E 3Z6, Tel: 403-265-6304, www.calgarypoppyfund.com .
