It is with a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of our Dad and Grandad John Babinec, aged 88, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2015. Born on July 14, 1927, John is survived by Katie, his loving wife of 64 years; daughters Susie Harding (Craig) and Karen Lancaster (Jeff); grandchildren Matthew, Kaitlin, Madeline, Marlies, Courtney and Zachary. John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Babinec, sister Ann and son Ronnie. Born in Silce, Czechoslovakia, John grew up in East Coulee, AB where he enjoyed all sports especially baseball, hockey and curling. After spending two years working in the Atlas Coal Mine, John moved to Calgary to attend Mount Royal College. Upon graduation he joined B.A. Oil and enjoyed a career of 38 years as it changed to Gulf Oil and finally PetroCanada, from where he retired. He remained active in sports throughout his retirement by curling and acting as the draw master for his senior men’s league. An avid sports fan, John loved to talk about the latest Blue Jays, Stampeders and Flames games. A private family service will be held.
