Philip Chin-Hwa Hu was born in Guangdong province China on May 19, 1931 and passed away peacefully September 19, 2016. After the turmoil of the Second World War and the Communist Revolution, Philip immigrated to Taiwan in 1949. Philip entered Taiwan Normal University and completed his Bachelors of Science and qualified as a Secondary School Teacher.
Philip met Yuwan in 1961 while teaching high school in Taiwan. He took a post at Taiwan Normal University teaching Botany from 1961 until 1965. Philip and Yuwan married in 1962. Rick, their only child, was born in December of 1962. Philip accepted a Masters student position at Dalhousie University and received his Masters in 1967. He began teaching high school in Newfoundland and continued to teach until his retirement in 1991.
In 1998 Philip and Yuwan re-located Calgary to be closer to their family. During the early years of retirement, Philip and Yuwan traveled the world gathering experiences and memories.
Philip’s training as a Botanist allowed him to find passion and creativity in his gardening and in his photography and these passions remained with him throughout his life.
Philip is survived by his wife Yuwan their son Rick and daughter-in-law Cindy, granddaughter Amanda Lauren (Paul) and grandson Alexander Philip John.
