GEDDES, Richard (Rick) William
March 24, 1950 – October 28, 2016

With great sadness, the family of Rick Geddes announces the passing of our beloved husband and father. Rick is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Shelley (Chris Martin), son Chris (Belinda Simpson), sister Anne (Edwin Cook) and niece Janet (Edward Gamble).

Rick was born in Watrous, SK, spending most of his childhood and youth in Regina and moving to Saskatoon while in high school. He graduated from the Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon and began his career working for Water Survey of Canada, initially in Hay River, NWT and then in Calgary. Later, Rick spent many years working in the energy industry for NOVA. He decided in 1999 to take early retirement and move to the not-for-profit sector.

Rick always felt that his years as CEO for the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate were his greatest accomplishment. He had a positive impact on the lives of many people, including Habitat homeowners and his team, both staff and volunteers.

Rick became an avid cyclist during his years at NOVA and Habitat, cycling to and from work on most days. After increasing arthritis ended his cycling days, Rick took up photography with a passion.

At Rick’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sarcee Hospice for the care and compassion they provided in Rick’s last months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity Calgary, www.habitatsouthernab.ca/donate or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, www.albertacancer.ca/donate/general.
