Viola Hewitt, a long-time resident of the Calgary area, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Mount Royal Care Centre.
Viola was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan and grew up around Yorkton. She was a full time hairdresser for many years in Saskatoon and also Calgary. She also worked at Billy’s News and the Calgary Herald before she retired. Vi loved travel, good food, baking, knitting, embroidering and socializing with friends at Confederation Seniors Centre or at St. David’s United Church. She also enjoyed playing her guitar with the Prairie Mountain Fiddlers.
Viola is survived by her sister Iona MacDonald in Winnipeg, nieces, nephews and grandnephews in Calgary and Winnipeg.
A Memorial Service will be held at Leyden’s Chapel of Remembrance (corner of 17th Ave & 2nd St Street SW) on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Viola’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, #200, 325 Manning Rd NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
