Yvonne Haliburton
June 9, 1927 - January 2, 2016
HALIBURTON, Yvonne Lois (nee Carnegie)
June 9, 1927 - Jan 2, 2016
The family is saddened to announce the death of our mother and wife, Yvonne. She is survived by Jim, her husband of 62 years, daughters Winona, Alexis (Peter) and Leslie (Jim), grandchildren Calum, Ailsa, and Kelsey, as well as sister Velda (Ray), sister-in-law Mary, nephew Jamie, nieces Beth, Heather, Lisa and dear family friend Hector Limoges.
Yvonne was born in Edmonton and raised in Waskatenau and Edmonton. She met Jim in Calgary at a church young adults event and they started their life together in Devon, then Edmonton and finally, Calgary.
She was a loving stay at home mom and generous hostess. She was the consummate volunteer, everything from school, community to church. She was a longtime member of Knox Presbyterian Church and involved in every aspect of church life.
Yvonne was a magnificent seamstress, starting at age 13 sewing for herself and family, made her own wedding dress and sewed endlessly for her three girls (and others) and then onto grandchildren. She spent many later years quilting for family and pleasure. In retirement she travelled as much as possible, sometimes leaving Jim at home to go further afield, and spent much time with family, friends, more church and sewing.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Knox Presbyterian Church, (3704 - 37th St SW) at 11:00 a.m. Special thanks to the loving caregivers at Wentworth Manor Court for their compassionate care over the past years. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com .
