WONG, Beverly, Virginia (nee Lyn)
Mandeville, Jamaica - 1946
Calgary, Alberta, Canada - 2016

Beverly Virginia Wong passed away peacefully on September 28, 2016 in Calgary, Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved older sister Glenda.

Beverly was born on January 25, 1946 in Mandeville, Jamaica to Stanford and Dorothy Lyn (nee Chin). After a childhood of climbing hairy-mango trees, treetop theatre seats, and chasing the peanut cart whistle, Bev met Orville when they were both 15. They dated, chased their dreams to Canada, married, and Ilsa and Damian (Wendy) were born.

A hard-working, fiercely independent, and strong-willed woman, Bev lived for her work at Ontario Hydro and her kids. For years she travelled for hours by Go train to downtown Toronto to work, before heading home to transport kids to soccer here and soccer there. The opportunity to retire did not pass Bev and Orville and so began their next set of dreams - to travel the world. Machu Picchu, Cuba, Japan, Norway, Tanzania to name but a few; their passports would eventually be stamped by multiple locations from every continent except Antarctica.

Although travelling continued to be a pastime, the greatest joys of Bev’s life have been her grandsons Colby and Aiden. Grammy was the bomb and going to Grammy’s house meant the best broccoli in town and a guaranteed rockin’ game of ‘match the dinosaur' cards!

Bev was the thread that knit the entire family together and will also be sorely missed by her sisters Janet, Sonia, and Claudette, and brother Gen. Friends and relatives are invited to a Celebration of Bev’s life on Saturday, October 08, 2016 at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17th Avenue SW & Lower Springbank Road) at 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to offer sincere thanks to those at Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Extendicare-Hillcrest who assisted in Bev’s care over the past 6 months. Special consideration is extended to the staff and volunteers at Carewest Sarcee Hospice and in lieu of flowers, friends and family may choose to make a donation to the Carewest Sarcee Hospice “Close to Home” Campaign (https://secure.calgaryhealthtrust.ca/sslpage.aspx?pid=363).
