YOUNG, Christine

December 25, 1957 - March 22, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Young, peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Foothills Medical Centre on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Christine passed away with the same class and dignity that embodied her life. When she first learned of her devastating diagnosis, she took immediate action to help us all deal with the harsh reality. Although she thought of herself as normal, she had an extraordinary life. Born in Elk Point and raised in Sherwood Park, Christine was a BComm Honours graduate from the University of Calgary. She lived in Calgary and worked thirty years in sales of Health and Safety solutions, garnering many awards and accolades from the international firm 3M. The wonders of her life are her twin boys, Kirk and Corey Hunn; they were everything to Christine. She worked hard as a single mother to give the boys the lifestyle and education that these two engineering graduates have earned. Hockey games that she and their father Randy Hunn shared with Kirk and Corey were a big part of their lives for many years. Her house, like her, was warm and generous, a welcoming place to learn, study and enjoy lively conversation. Her daily swims at her vacation home in Scottsdale were part of the holidays that she most looked forward to. She loved traveling with her family. Highlights for her were her trip to Europe and racing camels in Egypt. Many other special days were spent in Canmore, a place where she liked to hike and relax. Her transition to heaven was made easier knowing she would be with her beloved nephew Brandon Flock and her friend and father Les Young. Along with her sons she leaves behind her mother Daisy Young; her brothers, Campbell Young (Elaine) and Damon Young (Rosanne); her many nieces and nephews; and her sisters who were her best friends, Celeste Symon (Rod) and Dena Flock (Brad). Brad was her "guy" with whom she shared a very special brother and sister-in-law relationship. In her honour we invite you to join us in celebrating her full and happy life during a service on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Calgary First Church of the Nazarene (65 Richard Way SW) at 3:00 pm. The family would like to thank everyone for their support including her friend Chris Provencher. In lieu of flowers, please support www.BrandonFlockFoundation.com, where a (single mother) student Scholarship will be established in Christine’s name.
