<div itemprop="description">CHRISTOU, GEORGE <br>February 26, 1915 - July 14, 2016 <br> <br><br>It is with great sadness the family of George Christou announce his passing Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Foothills Hospital.<br><br>George was born in Lethbridge, AB over 100 years ago. When he was only a few months old, his family returned to Greece where he remained until he was 12 ½ years old, returning to Canada alone, with no English and only a sign around his neck indicating his destination of Lethbridge where he was welcomed by his relatives. He eventually moved to Banff where he joined other relatives. <br><br>His ambition, determination and hard work resulted in a successful business endeavour where he owned and operated The Hub Candy Store, Wagon Wheel Steak House and Andrianne’s Restaurant in Banff and Calgary. <br><br>George will be sadly missed by his family and large circle of friends and relatives in Canada, Greece and USA. He was predeceased by his wife Stella and sons Dean and Victor. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Casady, daughters Kathy (Larry) Dickson and Andrianne Morrison, step-daughter Margaret (Martin) Lovse; 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sister Orsalia Horianopoulos in Greece, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Greece and Alberta; closest friends Rob Anderson and Mike Duggan. <br> <br>George retired at age 42 spending the remainder of his many years enjoying life to the fullest with numerous trips to Greece and winters in Phoenix golfing where he won 2 bronze, 2 silver and 2 gold medals in the Arizona Senior Olympic Golf Tournaments. At age 91 he managed to shoot an 85 which was 6 under his age but no matter how hard he tried he could not get a hole-in-one. <br> <br>A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (#1 Tamarac Cres SW) at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the charity of your choice.</div>
