<div itemprop="description">LUKIC, Gertrud <br>1929 - 2017 <br> <br>Our mom, Gertrud Lukic, passed away following a long illness at the age of 87. <br><br>She was born July 3rd, 1929 in the town of Miroslav, Poland. She spent her childhood there until after WWII, following which her family relocated to Germany. In 1959, Gertrud immigrated to Canada to begin her dreams of a new life. She met her loving husband, John attending English classes. They embarked on their journey together in December of 1961 when they got married and soon brought two loving children into the world. Together they worked hard to build a new life for themselves and their family. <br><br>Mom took pride in her work and her own cleaning business. She would work endlessly to provide for her family working at all hours. Mom was most happy in her garden, planting and harvesting vegetables she would prepare for her family and friends. <br><br>Mom is predeceased by sisters Christa and Ollie, and her brother, Ludwig. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John, her sons Peter and David, grandson Ryan, sister-in-law Eugene Splett, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada and Europe. She will be fondly remembered by all the lives she touched in her time with us. <br><br>We would like to thank the staff of units 82 and 37 at the Foothills Medical Centre for their support in this difficult time. <br><br>Viewing will be held on Monday, March 20th at LEYDEN’S CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE (corner of 17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW) from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. <br><br>Mom’s celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 21st at the NEW APOSTOLIC CHURCH, 7440 Old Banff Coach Road, at 7:00 p.m.</div>
