DUNCAN, Patricia Margaret (nee Orme)
25 March, 1937 - 20 January, 2017

Pat passed away with dignity and grace, surrounded by the love of her life and husband of almost 60 years, Colin Duncan, and their three wonderful daughters: Katherine (Kathie) Duncan, Carrie Duncan-Moore (Warren Moore) and Amy Duncan.

Pat was the youngest of three children and is predeceased by her father, Reverend E.N.P (Teddy) Orme (Gagoo), her mother Hielma (Granny), her sister Claudia Pearson, her brother and sister-in-law Michael and Jessie-Ann Orme.

Pat’s defining role as grandmother is cherished deeply by her grandchildren Emily and Hailey Moro (Canmore and Calgary), and Tejas and Pratim Duncan-D’Sylva (Toronto). Her humour and wit, love and kindness, will be truly missed by her nieces and nephews the Pearson, Orme and Carter families of Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia and brother-in-law Allen Duncan (Dianne) and favourite Auntie, Malone Kencayd (nee Fleming).

For many years, Pat was an active and dedicated volunteer with Inn From the Cold and the Girl Guides of Canada (Trefoil Guild). Always quick with a joke and a warm welcome, our “Queen of Jeopardy” will be truly missed by her many friends and neighbours, new and old, in Calgary and Canmore, and her golf buddies at the Canmore Golf Club.

From the time she was very young growing up in Jasper, Pat was an outdoor enthusiast, a terrific swimmer (she swam the ‘Onions’ of the Columbia River in Trail, BC!), an avid bird watcher and she loved a good hike - often leaving Colin and their friends far down the trails! She and Colin shared this passion, among others, with their children and grandchildren, who still relish the stories of “Danny’s” treks to Lake O’Hara, Moraine Lake and throughout Kananaskis Country.

Sadly over the past several years, the effects of diabetes robbed Pat of her physical prowess, but it did not stop her from sitting out on the porch, decked out in a blanket and organic Tilley hat, listening to the birds and basking in the sun and the comfort of the mountains surrounding her in Canmore.

Our family wish to thank the Doctors, Nurses and support staff of Unit 36 of the Foothills Hospital for their kindness and warmth during Pat’s last days. Special thanks also to the wonderful staff who worked with Dr. Paul Petrasek at Peter Lougheed Hospital; the Doctors, Nurses and home-care providers at the Canmore Hospital, and a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michael Quinlan of Canmore.

A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Sunday, 29 January, 2017 at the Canmore Golf Course in the clubhouse from 1:00-3:00 pm. The family also ask that in lieu of flowers any donation you may wish to give be sent to the Diabetes Associations in your local community in her name
