VELTRI, Antonia (nee Lucente)
1927 - 2016

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (Nonna), sister and aunt Antonia Veltri (nee Lucente) on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the young age of 88 years. She passed away peacefully at home with her adoring family at her side.

Antonia was born on June 29, 1927 in San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, Italy. She came to Canada in 1954 to build a better life. Canada quickly became the home she cherished for the rest of her life. Nonna profoundly loved her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was full of wisdom and would willingly share important life lessons to guide us through our lives. Rather than focus on the past, Nonna always encouraged us to live in the moment. She would remind us to "just let it go", hope and optimism defined her; she was the rock of our family. Nonna positively impacted our lives and left a lasting impression to all those who met her. Her presence alone made you feel safe and secure. She had the ability to captivate you with her unique way of telling stories.

Nonna had an unwavering faith in God and she would want all her family and friends to remember that love is better than anger, hope is better than fear and optimism is better than despair. Her life was a testament to this.

Antonia is survived by her daughters, Rose and Sam Marasco, Teresa and Sieg Schwarz; her grandchildren, Francesco and Megan, Caterina, Salvatore Marasco, Kurtlin Schwarz; and her great-granddaughter, Aurora Marasco. She is also survived by her sisters, Filomena, Rosa and Vittoria. Antonia was predeceased by her husband Ignazio; brothers Michele and Salvatore; and sisters Angela and Clarice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Antonia's memory to Wellspring Calgary, Canadian Blood Services, or St. Vincent de Paul Society (St. Michael Catholic Church).

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church (800 - 85 St SW) at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church (800 85 St SW) at 11:30 a.m., with Father Iqbal Khurshid and Deacon Art Beaubien, Celebrants. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com .
