MASON, Christine
1927 - 2016

Christine was born to Ethel May and Frank Howse on January 24, 1927 in Hamilton, ON and died peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 27, 2016.

Christine travelled as a babe in arms to her beloved London, England where she spent her childhood. She was evacuated during World War II first to Brighton, and then in 1940 to New York; where she completed her secondary schooling. Christine attended the University of Toronto, and graduated from Medicine in the class of 1948.

Accomplished in everything she undertook, Christine was a brilliant student, a highly respected physician, dancer, traveler and golfer; as well as a beloved mother and grandmother. She was an avid student of music and literature, and a gourmet cook who hosted many festive and traditional family evenings. Towards the end of her life, Christine faced declining health with determination and ferocity. She practiced medicine until she was 87 years old, and was deeply committed.

Christine is survived by her two daughters Deborah (Robert), and Stephanie (Basil), along with her four grandchildren, Francesca Jane Williams, Hilary Anne Williams, Michael Winter Halpenny Mason and Sarah Rose Halpenny Mason.

The family would like to thank Drs. Cindy Mitchell, Jennifer Grossman, and the physicians, nursing and other staff at the Chinook Hospice for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank Kara, Kim and Brenda. Through their efforts over the last several years Christine enjoyed an enhanced quality of life. Christine's legacy of grace, family values, hard work and determination will live on in her children and grandchildren. She will be forever missed.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Christ Church Calgary (3602 - 8 St SW) at 1:00 p.m. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com .
