NARDEI, GAETANO (TONY)
January 31, 1932 - Pelos di Cadore, Italy
October 5, 2013 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gaetano “Tony” Nardei, beloved husband, father and Nonno, on Saturday, October 5, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Tony was born in Pelos di Cadore, Italy, where he was raised and became a skilled tradesman. In 1955, with a dream and $120 in his pocket, he set sail on the ship “Roma” for Canada and a better life. In 1956 he sent for his bride to be, Edda, and they were married in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Their son, Bob was born the following year, and the family grew to include two daughters, Lucy and Barbara. Tony had an adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit and, in 1963, started his own welding business that he nurtured and grew into a very successful enterprise. Tony was an avid skier, making Canmore his home base while enjoying the slopes. He was also an enthusiastic golfer, spending many years subduing the Pinebrook, Canmore and Red Mountain courses. For close to two decades, Tony and Edda spent winters enjoying the southern climes, particularly their home in Mesa, Arizona. Tony made friends easily, meeting lifelong friends aboard the ship from Genoa, through his work, and while skiing and golfing. His joy was always his family, but his treasures were his grandchildren, bringing a smile when he was with them, and missing them when they were not around. Tony leaves Edda, his wife of fifty-six years; children, Bob (Shannon), Lucy Thomas (Bob), Barbara Ehman (Bryan); grandchildren, Mark Nardei and Alexander, Joshua and Rebecca Ehman. Tony is also survived by five of his seven siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, all in Italy. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Michael’s Catholic Community (800 - 85 St SW). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony’s memory to Southwood Hospice, 211 Heritage Drive SE, Calgary, AB T2H 1M9.
