<div itemprop="description">McGRATH, John Auburn (CD) <br>1924 - 2016 <br> <br>John Auburn McGrath (CD) passed away peacefully on the 30th day of December, 2016 at Colonel Belcher Veterans Home in Calgary Alberta. <br><br>He was born in Arichat, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on the 16th of June 1924 to a large family of 13 children, 10 girls and 3 boys. John was predeceased by his loving wife Gloria on the 14th of November 1994, by his father Michael (1959), his mother Ethel (1961), by his nine sisters Edith, Clythie, Patricia, Margaret, Clara, Myra, Cora, Naomi, Jean, and brother Michael, (sisters-in-law Beverly and Mary). He will be lovingly remembered by his four sons John (Jane), Ronald (Paulette), Kenneth (Michelle), David (Bonnie), six grandchildren, Tammy (Gord), Cindy, April, Tina, Patrick (Kerri Lynn), Joseph, two step-grandchildren, Jill (Derek) and Matthew, also thirteen great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, a surviving sister Francis and brother Morton, by numerous nieces, nephew and cousins, and many good friends including Mr Don Krull and his wife Jean Reiter-Krull. <br><br>John served overseas in WWII. He also spent 4 years with NATO in Germany and a year with the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the Middle East stationed at Rafah, Egypt. John retired from the armed forces in 1970, after serving 26 years. In March, 1970 John began employment as a stores supervisor with Canada Post and remained in this position until his final retirement in 1984. <br><br>John was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #264. John and Gloria travelled extensively throughout Europe, United States and Canada, compiling many happy and lasting memories. John had many wonderful lifelong friends and will be missed by all who knew him. <br><br>Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at LEYDEN’S CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE (corner of 17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW) at 11:00 a.m. John and Gloria will be buried in the “Field of Honour”, Eden Brook Memorial Gardens, Calgary. <br><br>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #264, 1910 Kensington Rd SW, Calgary AB, T2N 3R5.</div>
