It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nettie Elford on Tuesday, December 30, 2014.
Nettie will be missed by George, her husband of 69 years, her family and dear friends. She is survived by sons, Jim (Teresa) of Creston, B.C. and Fred of Calgary; grandchildren, Blake (Trish), Jennifer Adams and Kris of Calgary; Ryan of Creston; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Zachary, Brie and Cody; sisters, Jean Harvey, Olga Powell ; brother Nick; as well as nieces and nephews and her extended families. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Mike Gregory; sisters, Kay Gardner, Mary and Anne; brother Walt; and brothers-in-law, Paul Gardner, Nick Bordenuk and Mike Harvey and sister in law Ruby Gregory.
Nettie was born and raised in Calgary for all of her 91 years. She went to James Short, McDougall and Western Canada schools. During the war she worked for the Alberta Government (selective service) until she was married to George Elford on August 14, 1945. Nettie was then employed as a secretary for law firms O’Connor & O’Connor and Faber Gurevitch. She loved to sing in church choirs, Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant United and lastly with Bow Cliff Singalongs. Nettie was a crafty lady, creating ceramics and oil and acrylic paintings, which she continued until the age of 80.
Family and friends are invited to Prayers and Visitation on Monday, January 5, 2015 at LEYDEN’S CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE (corner of 17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at LEYDEN’S CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE (corner of 17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW) at 2:00 p.m.
Interment at Burnsland Cemetery will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com .
