ZIMMERMANN, Rosa (Rose, Rosl)

May 14, 1923 - Bayreuth, Germany

October 15, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Rose Zimmermann, beloved mother of Ursula Steele and much loved grandmother of James and Robert Steele, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Rose was married to Rolf Zimmermann, the love of her life, for 57 years until his passing in 2008. Rose was an Administrative Secretary to the Mayor of Bayreuth before Rose and Rolf immigrated to Canada in 1952. They spent many happy years together forging a life in a new country. She kept special ties to people in her birth country especially to Heidy Gauss her niece, her grandnephew Michael, and to Marie Muller and Inge Schmidt, two very close friends. She and Rolf created new friendships in Canada which were to last a lifetime which Rose cherished greatly. These treasured friends made sure to visit her throughout the ups and downs of life including, (in alpha order) Irma and Heinz Schleyer; Elsie and Harry Utzig; and Uschi and Sylvia Visser. Rose loved her family above all. Her grandsons, Jamie and Robbie, proved to be the absolute joy of her life and she relished each minute with them and sung their praises to every visitor. She had a very sharp mind. Even in the last weeks of her life she recalled very happy times with Rolf, the grandsons James and Robbie, their father, David and her daughter Ursula. She was an outstanding mother to Ursula and was a pillar of strength for her family. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at LEYDEN’S CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE (corner of 17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW) at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Beech and his office staff for their outstanding care and friendship throughout Mom's life. As well we would like to thank the staff at Wentworth Manor for their care and kindness. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com .
