URBANIAK, Stella
1932 - 2016

Stella Urbaniak passed away on April 2 at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice. She leaves behind her four sisters Anne Zdrill, Sophie Skoropat, Jean Giszas and Bernice Urbaniak (Peter Puttonen), her brother Edward (Irene Danczak), as well as many nieces and nephews, and a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Stella, her brother Henry, and brothers-in-law Frank, Bill and Ed.

Stella was born in Henribourg, Saskatchewan on December 30, 1932. She was the second oldest of 7. Stella moved to Calgary in 1949 where she resided the rest of her life. Travel was always her passion; she soon landed a job at Cooks Travel Agency and eventually went on to open her own agency. Stella continued serving her clients at Heritage Travel well past normal retirement age. Her travels are too numerous to list, and anyone who travelled with her enjoyed the little extras that only experience as a travel agent could provide. She will be remembered for organizing 11 pilgrimages for the FCJ Centre to the Holy Land, as well as Ireland and Scotland. She accompanied every tour and found ways to add to the experience beyond expectations.

A very active person, Stella was an avid golfer and she continued to golf until the fall of 2015. She could always be seen walking to and from work and church, and enjoyed coffee breaks across from her office at Kawa or at Purple Perk.

Stella was very close to her family and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, especially at Christmas. She was very active in St. Mary’s Parish and was a member of Catholic Women’s League. She participated in many charitable events and volunteered her time and energy wherever she could. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Carewest Sarcee Hospice for the comfort and care they provided Stella her final hours.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division, www.cancer.ca .

Relatives and friends are invited to a Prayer Service on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL (219 - 18 Avenue SW) at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (17th Avenue SW at Lower Springbank Road).
